Neath Port Talbot Catering Services provide one million school meals a year. Our menus are carefully planned to meet the Welsh Nutritional Guidelines for school lunches by our catering managers, food advisers and saffron nutritional analysis system. Our Catering Staff have undertaken nutrition training so pupils will be encouraged to eat nourishing vegetables or fruit daily and to make healthy choices.
It is our aim to ensure that all pupils can be provided with a healthy, nutritious meal and vegetarians and any special diet requests are catered for.
There is a hot main meal choice including a vegetarian option available daily plus a selection of vegetables, seasonal salads, a pasta option and whole meal bread. There is also a daily main pudding with an additional option of fruit bowl choice. A daily selection of chilled milk or water are available.
Overview
All primary school children in Wales will get free school meals by 2024.
This commitment is in response to the rising cost-of-living pressures on families and our shared ambitions of:
- tackling child poverty
- ensuring no child goes hungry in school
There are also wider benefits of free school meals, including:
- promoting healthy eating across the school
- increasing the variety of food options
- improving social skills at mealtimes
- improving behaviour and attainment
